Pancake Day

Because of an old tradition in England, we have decided to make our English lessons a bit more fun.

In the UK, Shrove Tuesday (Faschingsdienstag) is Pancake Day. In 1445, a woman was so busy making pancakes that she lost track of time. When she heard the church bells, she quickly ran to the church and got there just in time for Shrove Tuesday mass, still carrying her pancake in a pan. This is when the tradition to do pancake races started.

We got together as a team, wrote down our perfect pancake recipe in English and baked them. Then we competed in a relay race with the other teams. Before each runner started, he or she had to toss and turn the pancake in the pan. Our team won, of course!

We were allowed to eat the other pancakes we had made. The English lesson was nice and a fun experience.
